Kristey | My Artistic Journey
Every so often we like to share special features and present artists who inspire, but also to help get our creativity flowing and celebrate the beautiful diversity that each and every one of us possesses. We've decided to periodically interview creatives by asking them to answer ten, sometimes off-the-wall, get-to-know-you questions, along with showing us some of their latest work. So let's dive in.
Today's feature is from one of our founding members, Kristey Fritz-Martin from My Artistic Journey.
Kristey is a self-portrait photographer/mom-tog who lives in Idaho with her family and strives to push the boundaries with her creative abilities on the daily. Kristey's motto:
"If you aren't learning and pushing yourself to be a better version of yourself daily, then you have lost the battle." -Kristey
1. What fictional place would you most like to go?
“You know that place between sleep and awake, that place where you still remember dreaming? That’s where I’ll always love you. That’s where I’ll be waiting.” ― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
Neverland. . . hands down lol. Peter Pan has been my favorite since I was a small child and I always thought it would be such a grand adventure (although as I age I would likely be considered a pirate and that wouldn't be so fun. . . maybe I should consider Wonderland as a Plan B).
2. When was the last time you climbed a tree?
Today lol. I am a tree climbing fool although the getting down has always been very tricky business. I can climb things like a mad spider monkey hopped up on Mt. Dew, but the getting down is a terrifying experience that usually requires me to either call for help or patiently wait until my courage (or hunger) compels me.
3. If you had unlimited funds to build a house that you would live in for the rest of your life, what would the finished house be like?
Aw. . . the dream. First off it would be located in the middle of about 500 acres of forested wilderness. I am a huge fan of old Victorian architecture so likely some kind of stately manor with spiral staircases and hidden passageways, a large attached greenhouse with a running creek flowing through it and a lighthouse, fully glass lookout tower, on the fourth floor, with a super telescope so I can star gaze.
4. What do you consider to be your best find?
That's a hard one. . . I think the best thing I ever actually found was my self confidence. It took me A long time to figure out that I am a pretty cool person, even though I am a bit odd and fairly introverted. . . but I kinda dig me and I think that is true power. Accepting who you are, the good with the bad, and being content just being the you you were meant to be, has been such a liberating experience and something I hope I never loose again.
5. What do you wish you knew more about?
Film-making would be something I would love to learn more about. I am so fascinated with short-films and would love to be able to create and bring to life some of the odd concepts that come into my brain.
6. What are some small things that make your day better?
Coffee. . . coffee is life lol. I also really enjoy being outside and I try to make time, daily, to sit on my deck listening to nature and just being still. In addition, I have two small children (and a teenager) so all the tiny moments of seeing the world and discovery through their eyes is pretty amazing.
7. Who has impressed you most with what they’ve accomplished?
Helen Keller. . . because. . . well WOW!!! And my baby sister. . . she has struggled with addiction for most of her life and she has been clean and sober for nearly 4 years now and to see the life changes, accomplishments and sheer 180 that she has turned her life around into has been nothing short of magic. She inspires me daily to believe that if you want something bad enough you need to take the steps to reach out and grab your goals, no matter what they might be. She is such an inspiration to me and spends a large portion of her life completely devoted to her children and husband, as well as inspiring other people on their journey to sobriety.
8. What’s your favorite genre of book or movie?
I am a die-hard SciFi kinda girl. Fantasy and Aliens are my jam.
9. What is the most heartwarming thing you’ve ever seen?
Otters. . . they hold hands when they sleep so they don't drift away from one another. SO STINKING ADORABLE!!!!
10. What is something that a ton of people are obsessed with but you just don’t get the point of?
Adult jumpsuits. I mean, don't get me wrong, they are so adorable but how does one use the restroom without having to take the entire thing off?!? It just doesn't seem very user friendly at all.
